Timelines on the Silk Road

$4,800.00

Timelines on the Silk Road was directly inspired from my teaching and travels in Turkey, specifically, the small town of Safronbolu.  On the original Silk Road of trade between the East and West, Safronbolu citizens grew as they traded Saffron. Now, only a few old smoke stacks on the edge of town spew fumes from a smelting process.  As I wandered the streets over two thousand years old I saw man’s mark through the centuries:  New dwellings pushed right against or on top of the old, contemporary solutions to growing needs, and signs of the evolution of industry are prevalent.  In the distance I listened to the melodic call to prayer from the original minaret in this historic town of Safronbolu.

Juried into the San Diego Watercolor Society (SDWS) International Exhibition, 2015.  “Timelines on the Silk Road” won the Second Place Award as well as the Da Vinci Paint Award.
