Djupalonssandur Snaefellsness Peninsula was incredibly inspirational with its dark “lava tubes” and blacksand beach against the bright blue sunny skies.  From this study in my sketchbook, I painted a close-up of one lava tube and the rookery that filled the cliffs.

Tip 3:  A credit card makes a great paint spreader and scraper.  It helps make more realistic rocks and, on edge, straight lines.  Practice with it and see how much can be done with this single portable tool.

Tip 4:  A razor blade scraped against the surface of the paper can bring the “sparkle” back into dull water or too-solid paint passages.  Scrape it against a ruler for a straight distant horizon line.

“Black Pearl Beach” is for sale on this website under  Travel and Landscapes.  It is 11″ x 15″ and sells for $375

You can purchase it right on line.

Leaving Marquette driving through wind and snow my thirty “Industrial Evolution” series paintings made it to the Custom House Museum in Clarksville, TN. They will be on exhibit there from March 2 through May 2. It felt good to be in the sunshine and warmth as I continued traveling to my winter studio in Florida. I look forward to concentrating on my painting for the winter months.

Painting time is always interspersed with teaching time.  Excited to start this week at the Ft. Myers Beach Art Association to teach a “Chaos to Order” workshop from January 14-18.  The classes are always so much fun!  You can find all my workshop schedule on this website. Perhaps you will join me in one of these locations!

Chaos to Order!  This is the beginning, the Chaos, of preparation for my exhibition of thirty paintings heading for the Custom House Museum, Clarksville, TN.  The Chaos of Framing: measuring, measuring twice, cutting, ordering, putting it all together.  What’s missing? Order again….keep my eye on the prize!  The prize is the Order achieved when all is framed, inventoried, packed, delivered and hung in the beautiful space.  The bigger prize is when the audience views, enjoys and the communication of art is complete.  Beginning preparation now and opening in TN in March.  Dates to be announced – stay tuned!
